home for the holidays

I am such a happy little elf to be home and cozy with my family in Philadelphia.  I'll be taking a much needed break from yes, please for a bit.  In the meantime, I'd like to share these hand-stitched felt ornaments I made for this lady's client for a holiday party.

Here's wishing you and yours a loving and magical holiday.  Cheers to great things in 2010!

Craft Good Cheer

The Craft Good Cheer party was all sorts of awesomeness last night.  My favorite partner in crime, Paige and I were thrilled that so many of you came out and got your craft on with us!  How amazing were the felted snowman?!  Kudos to the dedicated crafters who stuck through that tedious process.  From the looks of it it was worth every needle poke!

I just loved meeting and catching up with all of you (and so bummed to have missed so many great ladies too!) I hope we brought a little joy and cheer into your holidays!

Seriously can't wait to do it again!  Paige, what's next darling?

This is Where the Wild Things Are

I'm probably the most impatient person you'll ever meet, but once in a while i can appreciate that some things are worth the wait.  Remember this inspiration board I shared back in October?  Well, I can finally share the holy-moley-knock-your-socks-off-spread featured in this month's edition of Utterly Engaged.  This desert beauty was designed by myself and the ever-amazing Paige.  Inspired by all things wild and lovely we created our ideal bachelorette party: a weekend in the Joshua Tree desert surrounded by vast mountains, bushels of feathers, shots of whiskey and our very best girlfriends.  It just doesn't get any better than this.

this project was the ultimate labor of love.  I feel so fortunate to have worked with such talented, kick ass people.  Can't wait to do it again! big love and hugs to you all!  xoxo

it's gonna be a fluffy white christmas

Ever since this super lady wrote about the TRUNKSHOW concept in her guest Design*Sponge column I've been smitten with the idea of perusing lovely sustainable goods with some girlfriends.  I mean, does it get any better than fondling organic cotton wares while enjoying a glass of wine?  I think not.  So i was thrilled when Paige asked me to design the sweets table and florals for her client's upcoming holiday TRUNKSHOW.

We stayed within a palette of soft muted greens and snowy snowy whites, mixing fluffy textures with crisp greenery.  The result was by far my favorite sweets table projects to date.  We had cuppies, russian tea cakes, gingerbread men, and a magnificent meringue topiary.  Isn't it just the loveliest, fluffiest, sweetest thing you've ever seen?  I don't generally share my concept illustrations here, but I couldn't resist with this one...

And if you haven't already, visit the Bash blog to check out more of our photos from the event.  Those TRUNKSHOW girls curated such a stunning collection of goods - it's a miracle i made it out of there without buying anything myself (i'm holding out until next week's TRUNKSHOW anyhow!)

Can't wait to do it again girls! xo

let's make a pillow

Seriously, you can do this, it's EASY!  I just got the most amazing sewing machine, recommended by this lady.

I'm in love.  it's like a whole new world of sewing opportunity has opened up.  (my last machine was a cheapie I got from target and died within a year)  prepare yourselves for a plethora of sewing posts in the coming months.  for now I'm sharing one of my favorite all time sewing projects - the super easy pillow slip cover.  I've been making them for years and love switching them out to give my living room a new feel once in a while. it's like instant style gratification!

They also make great gifts (just in case you're behind on your xmas shopping like me)

Your really don't need much.  Here's what you need:
pillow (you can use an ugly old pillow, I had mine laying around the house)
fabric (I found this fabric at Ikea - pretty isn't it?)
matching thread
scissors
pins
sewing machine

Ok, here's how you do it (with pictures!!)

Measure your pillow.  (my pillow is a 10” x 10” square.)

Cut one piece of fabric an inch larger than your pillow to allow for 1/2” seams (11”x11” in my case). Then cut two pieces of fabric that are the height of your pillow + 1” (11”) and the width of your pillow cut in half + 3” (8”)

Iron a 1/2” seam on each of the smaller pieces and sew along the edge

Next lay your bigger square face up.  Place the two smaller pieces face down lining up the edges (the smaller pieces will overlap in the middle).  Pin so the pieces don’t shift.

Stitch all around the edge of the square.

Turn your slip cover inside out and stuff with your pillow.  Voila!  Easy as pie.

EXTRA EXTRA: our wedding in The Knot Magazine!

Mr. Postman brought us a very special package last night - the latest issue of The Knot magazine featuring our very own wedding!  When we found out The Knot would be showcasing our wedding back in May I was cartwheels-pee-my-pants thrilled.  December seemed like a lifetime to wait and I had all but forgotten about it.  So what a lovely surprise as I opened the kraft paper wrapped package addressed to Christopher and Kelly Harris!

without further ado...our little wedding in big print....
